The following temperatures are recorded at default CPU clock speeds using AMD bundled stock coolers.
- Idle Temp - Computer idling at Windows desktop (no open windows or programs)
- Load Temp - Computer under heavy use (heavy gaming, video editing, virtualization, stress test)
- Max Temp - Maximum temperature before CPU begins to throttle
To help you compare AMD CPU temperatures, we have included the temperatures of popular low end, mid end, high end processors for each generation.

How to Lower Your AMD CPU Temperature
Upgrade Your CPU Cooler
Swapping out the default heatsink fan is the most effective method of lowering your AMD CPU temperatures - A good budget CPU cooler will drop load temperatures by 6 to 10°C, while a high end cooler is going to slash temperatures by 15 to 30°C during heavy use.
Another plus is that most aftermarket CPU coolers are quieter than stock ones so it helps to cut down your PC noise levels.
While AMD deserves a lot of credit for bundling their CPUs with superior and better looking coolers (even the humble Wraith Stealth outperforms Intel's stock cooler), you will still need an aftermarket cooler if you intend to overclock or run CPU-intensive tasks around the clock.
Change Your Thermal Paste
Replacing the thermal paste between the CPU and cooler is another proven method to cut down your AMD CPU temperatures. For less than $10, you can get a proper tube of thermal compound that is reusable and will lower your temps by 3 to 6°C on average - Click here to find out what is the best thermal paste for your needs.
Temp Monitor For Pc
How to apply thermal paste: Wipe off the old thermal paste, then squeeze a small gob of the new paste on the center of the CPU (see below). There's no need to spread it because the cooler's weight and processor's heat will distribute it evenly over time.
Delid Your CPU - Not Recommended
Delidding is the forbidden technique of removing the CPU's heat spreader to replace the thermal compound inside. Since this risky operation involves prying open CPU's the outermost shell, its warranty will be voided plus there is a real chance of damaging the chip.
Temp Monitor Windows 10
While hardcore overclockers and daredevil enthusiasts have reported 10 to 15°C lower temps after delidding some CPUs, we do NOT recommend it because even famous overclockers like der8auer has sacrificed numerous processors doing it.
